Republic County is quickly becoming a premier spot for business and industry.  A four-lane version of US Highway 81 was completed in the fall of 2002 offering improved transportation to and throughout the County. US 81 is now completed to Interstate 80 in Nebraska and is the fastest route from Interstate 80 to Interstate 70 in Kansas.

To help improve the economic diversity of Republic County, the Republic County Economic Development Corporation, Inc. (RCEDC) was formed in 1999.  RCEDC was created by an inter local agreement between the Republic County Commission and the City of Belleville.

Representation on the nine member board of directors is divided equally among the three commission districts.  In addition there are sixteen voting members that set policy for the corporation giving day to day responsibility to the nine member board of directors.  A coordinator was hired to provide immediate response to inquiries and to carry on the day to day business of the corporation.
 
RCEDC teams with local financial institutions and North Central Regional Planning to help secure optimum financing.  RCEDC has a working relationship with KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND HOUSING to assist in answering questions on all available programs and the variety of available incentives.  RCEDC staff and local representatives will work closely with prospects to develop tours, coordinate visits and support prospect requests to insure a positive business experience when contacting Republic County.
