Republic is a city in Republic County located near the Republican River. The community was named for the Pawnee Republic Native Americans. The Pawnee had a large settlement near Republic. After a local farmer stumbled upon Native American artifacts while working a field. The area was preserved and the Pawnee Indian Museum was created.
